3 Tips to look after your wedding dress before your special day (Part 2)
At Midnight Elegance, we know that your wedding dress is one of the most precious purchases you’ll ever make. We think you’ll agree when we say it’s SO important that you look after your wedding dress so that is stays pristine until your wedding day.
For brides who say “yes to the dress” at our boutique in Inverurie, we’re still with you every step of the way until your special day (and beyond). We can give you access to our ‘Little White Book of Seamstresses’ (brilliantly talented people in the North East of Scotland who we’ve had the pleasure of working with before but who are independent businesses not associated with Midnight Elegance) and we can help by pressing your dress ahead of the big day. We’ll even pack your wedding dress for transporting to a destination wedding. If you’re looking for help to clean and preserve your dress after you say “I do” – we can help too. Our brides tell us we offer an incredible wedding dress shopping and dress care experience.
Here are our top TLC tips to look after your wedding dress before your special day:
1) When trying on your dress, you should remove all jewellery to prevent any snagging
You’ll naturally be trying on your dress with a seamstress if alterations are required. Our advice is to take off your engagement ring and other jewellery to avoid them catching. On your wedding day, you can put your jewellery on last to avoid any last minute snags.
2) Avoid discolouration and staining to the fabric
One way to avoid this is by not spraying deodorant or perfume directly onto the gown. On your wedding day you may wish to be wearing your favourite scent and you’ll definitely want to wear some deodorant to help combat those sweaty excited nerves. Applying these in a room away from your dress, and a bit of time before you dress, will help reduce any transfer from these (lovely smelling) chemicals.
3) Do not wear makeup, fake tan or tinted moisturising products
You want to avoid colour pigment from makeup products transferring onto your dress. So your dress needs to remain a makeup and tan free zone.
But no makeup? No fake tan? That’s not practical for a wedding day we hear you say! Well, of course – we recognise this. Just avoid makeup and tan before your big day when you’re trying on your dress for your seamstress and certainly avoid (you or others!) touching your dress with unwashed hands in the build up to your wedding day.
On the day itself, don’t put on your wedding dress until your hair and makeup is all done. Step into your gown rather than pulling it on over your head to avoid getting any makeup or on your dress.
If you’re getting a spray tan done, speak to your beauty technician for advice about how many days in advance you need to do this to avoid ANY transfer of the product on to your beautiful white gown.
And you’ve got to think about transportation and storage of your dress too. Check out our post here.
